Thousands pay their respects to Trooper Marc Castellano

Over 2,000 police officers and an estimated 5,000 total people attended the funeral of Trooper Marc Castellano at St. Veronica’s Church in Howell on Saturday. Castellano, a married father of two preschoolers, was hit by a car earlier in the week on Interstate 195 while assisting in a search for two people believed to have abandoned a vehicle.

Virginia State Police Trooper Chad Dermyer, 37, was participating in a training operation with other troopers at a Greyhound bus station in Richmond on March 31 when a man walked away from his luggage. Dermyer approached the man, and after the two talked for a few seconds, the man pulled a gun from his waistband and fatally shot the trooper, police said.
